GMAT Exam 2023

GMAT Syllabus 2023

The GMAT syllabus is divided into 4 sections, we will discuss each section in this blog. There are a total of 50 topics covered in these four sections. We will give a list of topics that you should not miss while preparing for the GMAT exam. If we exclude the instruction and break time, you will be given 3 hours and 7 minutes for the test.

1. Analytical Writing

The analytical writing part of the exam consists of passages a student will be asked to read and answer questions and subjects on which a student will be required to write. The GMAT Analytical Writing section tests your communication, critical reasoning, and grammar skills. Students should pay close attention to the proper use of vocabulary and make every effort to avoid grammatical mistakes.

Two types of essay questions come into the exam.

Argument essay: The student must analyze the presented argument’s logic and consider any underlying assumptions. The next step is to determine whether the argument is logically strong.

Issue essay: You must write a thesis on the given topic. The word limit is around 600. The viewpoints you present can favor the relevant topic, or you can write the article from the perspective of your own opinion.

2. Integrated Reasoning

This section is a recent addition to the GMAT syllabus. There are mainly 4 types of questions asked in this section.

Table Analysis: These simple questions call for the analysis of data presented as a table. In these questions, ratios, statistics, probabilities, etc., are commonly used.

Two-Part Analysis: These questions provide the most flexibility because they can be verbal, numerical, or combined. It can be used to analyze questions on the exchange, simultaneous equations, and other problems. It demands the students to analyze complex relationships between things.

Multi-source Reasoning: The student is required to collect the data and understand it in these types of questions, which include data in the form of tables, images, or charts. On the basis of this information, the student will answer Multiple-choice questions about the information provided.

Graphics Interpretation: It analyzes a student’s ability to interpret data through pictorial representations or graphs (such as graphical representations, line graphs, area under graphs, bar charts, probability frequency distribution cumulative frequency distribution, confidence level graphs, x/y graphs, bar charts, pie charts, or statistical curve distributions) and completing the blanks for inferences and correlation examples.

3. Quantitative Aptitude

There are two main topics in the Quantitative Aptitude section in the GMAT exam syllabus 2023.

Data Sufficiency: These questions start with a problem statement and then have two factual statements. The student must decide whether the provided statements are sufficient to answer the problem statement’s query.

Problem-solving: You can improve your GMAT score by practicing conceptual math problems regularly, specifically when it comes to problem-solving. Most math problems on the GMAT are statement-based tasks covering basic mathematical ideas.

4. Verbal

A student must finish the GMAT verbal ability part within the given time. A student has 65 minutes to finish the verbal section of the test. 

There are 3 question types in this section:

Reading comprehension: You have to read 350-word paragraphs that you have or have not seen before and answer the multiple-choice questions based on that. You don’t need to be an expert on the subject to answer. Instead, you should only know how the various factors relate to each other.

Critical reasoning: The student must collect data based on the argument and choose the best response. You will need to collect the relevant data proving or disproving the argument.

Sentence correction: A statement with a part-based structure that needs to be evaluated is given to you in these questions. You must ensure that the sentence is written properly and that the original meaning has not been lost while changing it because there are many possibilities for an answer that you can mark as correct. You should also consider your writing skills and know English grammar rules.
