The PTE exam has to evaluate a candidate’s English language proficiency through three sections, including four modules. 

The modules in the PTE exam are

What Is PTE Speaking

The PTE speaking module will evaluate your speaking skill only by five different categories. 

The PTE Speaking & writing section takes 54-67 minutes to complete. So you need to calculate the time you want to spend on the speaking module. The PTE speaking module has five different type of questions. The questions in the PTE speaking are listed below,

PTE Speaking Format

After knowing the definition what is PTE speaking, you should also know the PTE speaking format.

The PTE Speaking module starts with a personal introduction. This section does not contain any marks. In this, you just have to introduce yourself. After that, the real test begins, let’s see the complete detail about the PTE speaking questions.

Personal Introduction

This is the first section of the speaking module. Though it does not contain any marks, the first impression is very important. So prepare well for the personal introduction well.

You will have 25 seconds to prepare yourself. After the preparation time, you will hear a beep sound. 

As soon as you hear the beep sound, the recording will be started, and you need to record yourself in the microphone. 

Tips And Tricks

  • Don’t rush while introducing yourself.
  • As it is your first impression, be calm and confident. 
  • Don’t try to add more points to the preparation time.
  • You have 30 seconds to introduce yourself, so be calculative to cover up all points within the time.

Read Aloud

After the personal introduction section, you will have 30-40 seconds to prepare for the read-aloud section. In the reading-aloud section, you need to read the text present on the monitor.

You will be given a 60 words text. In this section, you will get a partial score based on your pronunciation, accent, and grammatical errors.

You can record your answer only once. So make sure the recording symbol is shown while you are recording. The recording time of this section may vary depending on the number of texts they are given.

Tips And Tricks

  • Speak closer to the microphone.
  • Don’t read the text fast. Take pauses wherever it is needed.
  • Frequently check whether you are recording or not.

Repeat Sentence

In this section, you will be presented with an audio clip. You need to listen to the audio clip and repeat that once the recording is started.

Once the audio clip is over, the recording will start immediately. Unlike other sections, the beep sound will not be heard.

So confirm whether the recording is ended or not. The audio will play for 3-9 seconds. You will have approximately 15 seconds to record yourself.

This section also gives you a partial scoring based on your listening and pronunciation skills.

Tips And Tricks

  • Unlike other sections, you will not get any notification before starting the recording. So be ready to answer.
  • Listen to the audio clip carefully. As much as you listen, you can answer confidently.

Describe Image

As the label says, you need to describe the image shown on the monitor. You have to describe the images and data present in the image in your own words. 

You will have 25 seconds to go through the image and prepare yourself. You will have 40 seconds to record your answer. Make sure to describe all things present in the image within 40 seconds.

This section will give you a partial scoring based on your fluency in English.

Tips And Tricks

  • You don’t need to describe all data present in the picture. Just tell whatever you can see clearly.
  • You will have only 40 seconds to describe. First, cover up the important part of the image and continue the other things later. 
  • Speak near the microphone.

Retell Lecture

In the retell lecture section, you will hear an audio clip. You need to recall and retell the lecture in your own words once the audio clip gets over. 

Sometimes the lecture is presented with an image for better understanding. The audio clip will play for 90 seconds. In this section, you will get a partial score based on your fluency and oral communication and your performance.

You will have 10 seconds to prepare yourself and 40 seconds to record your answers. The progress bar will turn from ‘recording’ to ‘completed’ once you finish your recording.

Tips And Tricks

  • Write down some keywords related to the lecture while you listen to an audio clip. This may help you to recall the points easier.
  • Retell the lecture in your own words. Don’t try to copy exactly in the audio clip.
  • Don’t rush yourself to finish the recording. As you have enough time, explain the lecture in detail.

Answer Short Question

In this section, you will be asked some short questions, and you need to answer in one or a few words. These questions will be a day-to-day questions.

You will be presented with an audio clip with an image. Once the clip is over, the recording will start automatically.

You will have 10 seconds to record your answer. Moreover, 5-6 questions will be asked in this section. As this session also doesn’t give any notification for recording, look up the monitor to confirm your recording status.

Tips And Tricks

  • Your answer should be short and crisp.
  • Don’t give any lengthy answers, as you will have only 10 seconds.
  • Try to give straight answers.
