UK Has No Plans To Change Immigration Policy To Secure Trade Deal With India: On Thursday, the spokesperson for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that the UK has no plans to change its immigration policy to reduce net migration to help secure a free trade deal with India.

There is rising optimism that a free trade deal between the two countries could be completed this year as both sides decide on the broad contours of the pact, but some difficult topics remain to be discussed.

UK Has No Plans To Change Immigration Policy To Secure Trade Deal With India

This week, Rishi Sunak told his ministers that negotiations were progressing, but he would only agree on an approach that benefits the entire UK. Also, the Sunak is headed to India for a G20 summit this weekend.

In June, Trade Minister Kemi Badenoch said that Britain would discuss temporary business visas for Indian workers as part of trade talks but would not include broader immigration commitments or access to Britain’s labor market.

According to a spokesperson for Chancellor Rishi Sunak, the prime minister thinks that the current migration rates are too high.

However, the spokesperson highlighted that there are no plans to change our immigration policy to secure a free trade agreement, which also applies to student visas. This statement was made to reporters to ensure clarity on the matter.

Last year, Interior Minister Suella Braverman caused disagreement with her remarks about the potential effects of Indian immigrants on trade negotiations.

She expressed concerns about an “open borders migration policy with India” and individuals who overstay their visas.

However, the Indian High Commissioner to Britain, Vikram Doriaswamy, contradicted the notion that India was requesting more visas, stating that while this claim had been reported in British media, it had not originated from Indian sources.

Instead, he explained that India was seeking easier methods for companies to transfer UK and Indian employees between the two countries.

So, it is all about the UK has no plans to change immigration policy to secure trade deals with India.
