Canada Launched A New Process To Welcome Skilled Workers As Permanent Residents

According to the latest news, Canada has launched a new procedure to attract and welcome the maximum number of skilled newcomers with a good work experience in priority jobs as permanent residents.

The Minister of IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship), Sean Fraser, on Wednesday, announced the first-ever and latest launch of the category-based selection process for Canada’s flagship economic immigration management technique through Express Entry.

This new category-based selection process will permit the Canadian government to issue invitations to apply to coming permanent residents with special training, knowledge, skills, and language proficiency.

The news also mentioned that the Canadian authorities would announce further information about the invitation timings for individual categories and how to apply for this new process in the upcoming weeks.

IRCC said in a statement, “Employers across the country need to fill countless vacant positions, and immigration has become a crucial solution to this problem. The Government of Canada recognizes this situation and is working on creating an immigration system that supports growth, addresses labor needs, empowers businesses, and strengthens French communities.”

He also mentions that this new category process will enable the Express entry to be more responsive to Canada’s changing financial and labor demand while pushing on the increased human capital system, a hallmark of Canada’s thriving economic immigration program,” IRCC added.

According to the IRCC report, the first invitation to apply for the category-based process will be sent this summer.

Also, this year category-based selection invitations will concentrate on the students who have the necessary knowledge and skills, including

  1. A Strong French Langauge proficiency
  2. A work experience in any one of the following fields like:
  • Healthcare
  • Agriculture and agri-food
  • Transport
  • Trades, such as plumbers, carpenters, and contractors
  • In Technology, science, mathematics (STEM) professions, and engineering

After learning about Canada’s new process to welcome skilled workers as Permanent Residents. Now, we will discuss the express entry and how the categories were chosen.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an online application procedure that allows people to submit their profiles and be considered skilled immigrants. It includes the three overseas economic immigration programs, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Federal Skilled Workers Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.

These three programs use the (CRS) Comprehensive Ranking System to score students based on human capital aspects, including language ability, education, work experience, occupation, and more. The students with the highest overall score of CRS were most likely to get an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence.

How Were The Categories Chosen?

The categories were chosen based on the following lawmaking conditions: the Minister’s participation in public consultation with industry members, provinces and territories, employers, unions, worker advocacy groups, workers, immigration researchers and practitioners, and settlement provider organizations.

Every year, IRCC reports to Parliament on

  1. The categories were chosen from the previous year
  2. Why and how they were chosen
  3. The instructions to establish a category
  4. The number of invitations issued for every category
