People Can Now Book Their US Visa Appointments Without Any Wait Time: The US Consulate General Mumbai has announced that it has cleared the visa backlog caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, applicants can now schedule their appointments for immigrant visa interviews within the standard time frame.
Previously, the appointment wait time for US visas was over two years due to the pandemic. However, applicants can now schedule their appointments for current slots. The consulate believes that this will help reunite families in the US.
The US official statement also said that more than 9 lakh non-immigrant visas are being processed and are expected to pass the one million mark soon.
Recently, Eric Garcetti, the United States Ambassador to India, said that the waiting time for first-time tourist visa interviews has been reduced by over 50%. He also shared that their target for 2023 is to process at least one million visas.
The envoy said they will continue to invest in expanding visa operations and team growth. Innovative solutions will be implemented to simplify the visa process, such as reducing the necessity for in-person interviews. It will enable consular teams from all over the globe to help process visas for the increasing number of Indian travelers.
India and the US are working together to facilitate the visa process. In this process, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spoke to the Indian community in the US and announced a new policy for Indian professionals, which allows them to renew their work visas without needing to travel abroad.
During his speech to the Indian diaspora at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC, PM Modi announced the opening of America’s new visa consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. He also shared that the H1B visa renewal process can now be completed within the US.
