Last week during a visit to Vancouver, Canada’s immigration minister Sean Fraser introduced new measures for family-class immigration. These measures allow those waiting for permanent residency after marriage to apply for a temporary resident visa (TRV) more quickly. The government has also created specialized processing tools for spousal TRV applicants.
Many of these visa applications will now be processed within 30 days, and their applicants will receive personalized processing steps specific to their status as dependents and spouses.

Minister Fraser recently announced that open work permit holders, including spousal applicants, whose permits expire between August 1 and the end of 2023, can extend their permits for an additional 18 months. It is similar to the option for many with passing post-graduation work permits.
