While on the trip to India for the G20 meeting, the minister of German Labor, Hubertus Heil, met qualified nurses in Thiruvananthapuram as a part of an international recruitment step to bring more skilled and talented workers to Germany.

Also, the German Society for International Cooperation and the German Federal Employment Agency have recruited nursing staff from Kerala since 2022. In Germany, Healthcare is just one of the employment sectors where the country has a lack of labor. 

Heil stated that it may be possible to achieve comparability and recognition of qualifications across different countries in the future. During his trip to India, he also aims to explore the potential for skilled workers and promote Germany as a desirable location with favorable living and working conditions.

The government of Germany has relaxed visa rules and simplified the recognition process for foreign qualifications to facilitate this process. This new move aims to ease the entry of trained professionals, making it a more attractive option for Indian nurses to consider living and working in Germany.

In February, Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany announced their aim to streamline the work visa regulations for Indian IT professionals due to the increased demand for software development skills. 

The proposal involves updating the visa-issuing procedure and easing specific rules to make Germany a more attractive location for talented Indian IT specialists.

Also, a new law has been passed in Germany to make it easier for skilled workers from third-world countries to enter the country. Starting from 1st March 2024, the law will introduce more straightforward and streamlined procedures for third-country workers to visit Germany for work. 

The German government’s initiative to attract skilled workers from India has proved successful, with over 14,000 work visas granted to Indian nationals in the past year, a significant increase compared to previous years, according to government data.
