The US Ambassador, Eric Garcetti, has announced that the US is expanding its workforce and opening additional consulates to reduce Visa Delays for Indians, one of which will be in Ahmedabad.

This step was taken by the US Ambassador to shorten the time for issuing visas from India.

Moreover, during an interactive session which is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), Eric Garcetti mentioned that the Hyderabad consulate has just opened, and now, for opening new additional consulates, the premises in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad are being considered.

By stating the data fact, he added that the number of US visas issued in India had grown by one-third in the last few weeks. In addition, for further improvement, the US embassy plans to issue 10 to 15 % more visas than usual.

In the interactive session, he also highlighted that the reason for the delay in visa granting is the huge number of applications. Moreover, other nations, such as Brazil and Mexico, were also experiencing the same problem.

It is also stated that in 2023, the India team processed more visa applications than in any previous year. Eric Garcetti stated that a substantial reduction, amounting to over 50 percent, had been noted in the waiting time for first-time tourist visa interviews. To improve this, the US embassy aims to process at least one million visas in 2023.

Even according to data, due to a surge in visa demand, the US Embassy noted that the issuance of 90,000 student visas is in the summer months of July and August. That means nearly one in four student visas are issued to Indian applicants globally.
