US Designs Specialized Courses For Indians Under The New Education Policy: The US is one of the top destinations for Indian students who want to study abroad.

In the 2021-2022 academic year, around 200,000 Indian students studied in the US, based on the US embassy report. 

For those who want to pursue their master’s degree in the US, The US state department started new specialized courses designed to make it easier for Indian students to get admitted to US universities and colleges.

It will help to attract more Indian students to study in the US and will also help to strengthen the ties between the two countries. In this article, we will discuss US designs specialized courses for Indians under the new education policy.

US Designs Specialized Courses For Indians Under The New Education Policy

In line with India’s (NEP) New Education Policy, The United States (US) state department has started an educational program for Indians. 

This program will allow all Indian candidates to pursue a 1-year proffessional master’s degree with an industrial specialization in American universities. 

The courses are limited to the STEM disciplines, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Also, these courses for Indian students will start in the fall semester of 2024. 

More than 15 Indian and around 20 American universities are already discussing how to benefit from the initiative, with the US State Department as a facilitator.

After completing a 1-year course, candidates can also live in the United States for up to 3-years, per the existing and applicable visa regulations, to repay all their student loans and gain work experience in industries. 

A Jefferson Science Fellow at the State Department’s (SCA) South and Central Asia bureau, Akhilesh Lakhtakia has designed a new 1-year program for Indian students. 

After almost two decades, India introduced a new education policy through National Education Policy 2020. 

This new policy aims to make education:

  1. Available to all Indians.
  2. Simultaneously international in scope and mainly concentrated on Indian culture and knowledge systems.
  3. A strong partnership between educators and students. 

The National Education Policy envisions an education system embedded in Indian ethos and guiding the transformation of India into a tolerable and honest knowledge society.
