  • 15 points if you are 40 to 44 years

Candidates that are 45 years or older cannot apply under the SkillSelect program.

Criteria 2- Proficiency in the English Language

The maximum number of points that can be obtained by an individual is 20 in this criteria. The breakup is as follows:

  • 20 points for Superior English Language Proficiency
  • 10 points for  Proficient English Language Proficiency
  • 0 points for  Competent English Language Proficiency

Other test results that can also be taken into consideration are:

  • TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign language, internet-based test)
  • CAE ((Certificate in Advanced English)
  • PTE (Pearson Tests of English)
  • OET (Occupational English Test)

Criteria 3- Employment outside Australia

The maximum points that can be obtained by an individual are 15 points. The breakup is as follows:

  • 15 points for 8 to 10 years of work experience as a skilled worker
  • 10 points for 5 to 7 years of work experience
  • 5 points for 3 to 4 years
  • 0 points for less than 3 years

Points to be noted: 

  • The last 10 years are looked at for counting the work experience. Moreover, the work experience can be in Australia or outside Australia.
  • The skilled occupation must be one among the Skilled Occupation Lists such as the Regional Occupation List (ROL), the Short-term Skilled Occupation List, etc.

Criteria 4- Employment in Australia

The maximum points that can be obtained by an individual are 20 points. The points required for Australia PR in this criteria are divided as follows:

  • 20 points for 8-10 years of work experience

The maximum points that can be obtained by an individual are 5 points which can be obtained as follows:

  • At least 1 trade qualification or degree/diploma from a recognized Australian educational institution

Criteria 7- Niche Education Skills

The maximum points that can be obtained by an individual are 5 points. This can be obtained as follows:

  • Doctorate or Masters degree by research from an Australian educational institution. This should ideally include at least 2 academic years in a specific field.

Criteria 8- Partner Skills

The maximum number of points that can be obtained by an individual is 10 points. This can be obtained in the following manner:

  • 10 points for being single (unmarried)
  • 10 points for the partner being a PR holder or an Australian citizen
  • 10 points for the partner being competent in the English Language alongside Positive Skill Assessment
  • 5 points for the spouse being competent in English but does not have any Skill Assessment
