PM Modi Announces 5-Year Work Permit For Indian Students Pursuing Masters In France

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a piece of news on Thursday for Indian candidates who are pursuing a master’s degree in France. These candidates will now be given a five-year long-term study visa.

Pm Modi came to Paris for a 2-day official visit on Thursday and was offered a formal welcome at the airport. French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne welcomed him at the airport. He told this latest news address to the Indian community at LA Seine Musicale in Paris.

PM Modi said when I arrived in France last time, it was decided that all the Indian candidates who wanted to study in France would be given a 2-year post-study work visa.

But now, it has been decided that all the Indian candidates pursuing master’s degrees in France will be given a 5-year post-study visa.

During his address, PM Modi recognized the significant contribution of the Indian community in France, which has helped to establish a strong foundation for the partnership between India and France.

This exciting change will open up new ways for Indian students to gain helpful international work experience and contribute to the growth and development of both India and France.

It reflects the two nations’ solid bilateral ties and commitment to promoting educational and cultural exchanges.

The 5-year work visa not only offers Indian students a chance to gain professional experience but also incentivizes more students to consider pursuing higher education in France. It will attract talented individuals, strengthen academic collaborations, and promote the exchange of ideas between the two countries.

Around 65,000 immigrants from India now live in France. Based on the French embassy data, around 2.7 million candidates register in French higher education, and around 14 percent are international students.

France is particularly famous for its management programs, with more than 70% of Indian candidates registered there. Based on the latest official data collected after the Covid pandemic, there were approximately  6,000 Indian candidates in France in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said last year that France plans to invite around 20,000 Indian candidates to the country by the year 2025.

According to Colonna, the plan is highly ambitious. The goal is to have 20,000 Indian students studying in France by 2025, a significant increase from approximately 5,000. Despite the challenge, Colonna believes there is unlimited potential for collaboration between India and France.
