New Canada Digital Nomad Visa: Digital nomads are those people who travel freely while working remotely through the latest technology and the Internet.
Normally, these people have few material possessions and work remotely from temporary places like hotels, housing, public libraries, cafés, recreational vehicles, and co-working spaces using technologies like smartphones, Wi-Fi, or mobile hotspots to access the Internet.
The former Immigration Minister of Canada announced promoting Canada as a famous destination for digital nomads as a part of the new Tech Talent Strategy in June 2023.
Although this digital nomad strategy is quite attractive, there is nothing special about it since IRCC has yet to develop it into a full-fledged strategy.
What Is A New Canada Digital Nomad Visa?
According to IRCC, a digital nomad is a person who can work remotely from any place around the world.
Under the new immigration rules of Canada, a digital nomad can migrate to Canada for up to six months while working remotely for their foreign employer with only a visitor status.
This is only a visitor visa for remote working professionals whose employers are located outside Canada.
IRCC plans to process visitor visa applications for digital nomads within two months of receiving a complete application.
These digital nomads who initially enter Canada to work remotely can apply for a work visa for up to 3 years if they receive a job offer from employers in Canada.
With this valuable experience, individuals will have a greater chance of successfully applying for permanent residency in Canada through various programs.
The IRCC has said they are collaborating with public and private partners to assess whether further policies are necessary to draw digital nomads to Canada. However, it is unclear whether they are making progress in this regard.
Canada Digital Nomad Visa Requirements
There are no clear requirements for a digital nomad visa other than the information mentioned above on who may fit this.
Digital nomads can apply for a normal Canada visitor or tourist visa with some supporting documentation on their current jobs outside Canada.
Also, there is no objection certificate or other proof that their company permits them to work remotely from anywhere globally.
There are currently no specific or official requirements mentioned by the IRCC for individuals to be considered digital nomads.
Even for a normal tourist or visitor visa, providing some proof of your current job strengthens your case rather than unemployed individuals outside Canada.
So, it is all about the new Canada digital nomad visa coming by the end of 2023.
