More Slots Expected to Open Soon to Shorten US Visa Waiting Period
The US consulate is working hard to shorten wait times, so Indian visitors and students traveling to the US could soon expect additional visa appointment slots and processing locations.
In a recent interview with Times of India (TOI), the US Consul General, Mike Hankey in Mumbai, said, “To speed up the renewal procedure, we have given primary priority to students and certain categories such as those traveling for business or medical emergencies.”
In addition, every few months, we release lakhs of fresh appointments for first-time travelers. And those individuals who currently hold a US visa can also renew it online.
According to him, the Hyderabad office will be fully staffed and capable of handling about 3,500 visa applications daily. It will grow to be the largest consulate in Asia for granting visas. Additionally, the US is anticipated to open consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, India.
Moreover, there is a streamlining of the visa application procedure for Indian students. Hankey continued, “We have started to schedule each student’s immigration interview before the commencement of their courses to prioritize them. We adhered to it this year as well.”
Hankey emphasized that students should apply for visas on their own, without the assistance of an agency, to save money. They can do the same if necessary with free support from the Education USA office. He continued that new regulations have been implemented to stop fraud and misuse of the appointment system for the F, M, and J categories of student visas.
The Open Doors Report, made public earlier this month, states that in the academic year 2022–2023, a record 2,68,923 Indian students, with a 35% rise, traveled to the US.
Additionally, regarding business cooperation, Hankey stated that US companies might co-develop and co-produce in India. Due to this, Businesses and students are making people-to-people interactions. I only see business growing,” he continued.
