Latest Requirements for European Travel: The European Commission (EC) has recently introduced new requirements for certain visitors who are traveling to any of the 30 designated European Union countries (EU) countries.

In 2024, first, travelers must complete an online travel authorization application through the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System).

According to the EC, the new process aims to detect security and irregular migration risks. The launch of ETIAS, which was scheduled for 2022, has been delayed due to technical issues and the unpreparedness of the systems for operation.

All European Union countries, except Ireland, will need ETIAS travel authorization for entry from next year. Individuals who have received ETIAS approval can remain in the countries listed for a maximum of 90 days during 180 days.

The EU website has not set an actual start date for the new procedures. However, visitors should expect extra questions and fees when entering.

To complete the ETIAS application, applicants must have their travel documents and credit card at hand. Also, they will be required to provide accurate details and a declaration of accuracy on the following things:

  • Personal information
  • Education and occupation
  • Travel documents
  • Any criminal convictions
  • Intended travel itinerary
  • Past travels to war or conflict zones
  • Has the applicant ever been required to leave the territory of any country due to a decision made against them?

Also, the applicants ages 18 to 70 must pay the electronic application fees, which will be EUR 7, around 8 USD and 630 INR. Children below 18 will not need to pay any application fees, and parents must submit their applications on behalf of minors.

Suppose you are a passport holder from one of the 59 countries allowed visa-free travel to Europe for tourism, business, or transit, including the United States.

In that case, you will now need to obtain ETIAS authorization. This new requirement applies to about 1.4 billion people, including citizens of the United Kingdom, which used to be a member state of the European Union.

The European Commission has confirmed that over 95% of ETIAS applications will be processed within minutes. Once approved, the ETIAS travel authorization will allow multiple entries to European countries and remain valid for three years or until the applicant’s travel document expires.

Individuals considered a security risk, such as those with a criminal history, may be refused authorization for ETIAS.

They can appeal if an individual’s ETIAS travel authorization is declined or canceled. They will receive an email specifying the reasons for refusal, the decision’s authority, the European countries where they can file an appeal, and the procedures to follow.

So, it is all about the latest requirements for European travel.
