International Students In Australia Given False Hope Of Permanent Residence:  The federal government’s recent crackdown on student visa fraud has shed light on the issue of international students struggling to find work after graduating from Australia.

Shocking data reveals that only 50% of them are able to secure employment. The Grattan Institute report suggests that the rights granted to international students to stay and work in Australia after graduation are highly generous, leading to false hopes and expectations.

More than 50% of students who completed their studies secured full-time employment. However, most of these jobs were low-skilled and paid less than $53,300 annually.

According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), there were around 654,870 individuals with a student visa in Australia as of July this year.

A report by Brendan Coates, the Director of the Grattan Institute Economic Policy Program, says that encouraging multiple international graduates to remain in Australia and struggle is not in the interest of anyone.

The report highlights that the government’s “generous” policy will leave tens of thousands of young people stuck in low-paid jobs that are unrelated to their career aspirations, causing them to be left in a state of uncertainty.

According to a report, one in three recent temporary graduate visa holders return to further study after their visa expires.

They usually study a lower-level VET course, saying the visa does not provide a stepping stone to full-time work in their chosen profession.

The report highlights the need for a major policy overhaul and urges the government to reduce the duration of post-study work visas for international graduates.

The Australian government is considering raising the English language requirements for graduate visa holders and limiting graduate visas to individuals under 35.

These reforms would reduce the number of graduates left in uncertain situations while still attracting the best international students and allowing the best graduates to remain in Australia, according to Mr. Coates.

So, it is all about International Students in Australia given false hope of Permanent Residence.
