How To Apply For Canada SDS Study Visa With New English Exams: On 10 August 2023, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) approved the four new English language proficiency exams for the Canada SDS (Student Direct Stream) study visa. But, they did not update the GC key.
The four new English exams approved by IRCC include PTE, CELPIP, CAEL, and TOEFL iBT.

However, the IRCC shared a new and temporary measure for all SDS study visa applicants.
How To Apply For Canada SDS Study Visa With New English Exams
SDS applicants can now use the instructions to submit new English exams to have their applications considered, which are given below
- The first thing is when asked if you have taken an English language exam in the past two years, then select ‘Yes – IELTS’ even if you have the other exam’s test results, including PTE, CAEL, CELPIP, or TOEFL test results.
- When asked if your exam results were 6.0 bands or more, select the yes option again, even if your exam score is less than 6.0 in one or two modules of the IELTS Academic exam.
- The last thing is that when you upload your supported documents, please upload your valid exam result in the field labeled proof of IELTS Results, which can be PTE, CAEL, CELPIP, or TOEFL test results.
Note:- Also, remember one thing for applying for a Canada SDS study visa, IRCC only accepts in-person language examinations. Online examination results are not accepted.
Is It Confirmed That Students With An IELTS Overall Score Of 6 Bands Can Apply For An SDS Study Visa?
Yes, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) confirmed that students are eligible to apply for a Canada study visa under the SDS stream with an overall score of 6.0 bands with less than 6.0 bands in one or two modules in the IELTS Academic exam.
However, students will need a minimum of 6.0 bands in each module if they submit the IELTS General exam results for a Canada SDS study visa.
